What is the Digital Nomad Visa?

Digital nomads, remote workers, and digital entrepreneurs from countries that do not require a short-stay visa, as established by Resolution 5477, can enter Colombia without a visa and stay in the country with an Entry Permit issued by the immigration authority, as per the current regulations.

This type of visa is known as a type V Visitor’s visa and is valid for up to two years. Please note that the maximum duration of your stay in Colombia with a digital nomad visa is 180 days or 6 months within a year.

What are the requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa?

The following documents are required for a type V digital nomad visa


Passport Photocopy:  Provide a copy of the first page of your current and valid passport displaying your personal information. The copy can be submitted in either color or black and white.

Proof of Legal Entry: To proceed with the necessary process, provide a photocopy of the page of your passport that displays the last stamp of entry or departure from Colombia.

Letter from a Foreign Company: Please provide a letter in Spanish or English issued by one or several foreign companies for which you provide your services. The letter should indicate the nature of your relationship with the company and the type of remuneration you receive. In case you have a contract with the company, kindly provide it. Alternatively, you may demonstrate that you are a partner or co-owner of a company abroad and a letter indicating that your work for the company is carried out remotely.

Motivational Letter: If you’re an entrepreneur, it’s important to include a motivational letter in your application. Your letter should outline your entrepreneurship project and the financial and human resources you have or hope to acquire for your enterprise. This will help the reviewers better understand your business plan and vision for success.

Bank Statements: Provide your bank statements that show a minimum income equivalent to three times the current Minimum Legal Monthly Wage (SMLMV) in the last three months. The required income amount is approximately equal to 750 USD.

Proof of Health Insurance: It is mandatory to possess a health insurance policy that covers all risks related to accidents, illnesses, maternity, disability, hospitalization, death or repatriation throughout the duration of one’s stay in the country.

Passport photo: For your passport application, you will need a face photo that meets certain requirements. The photo should have a white background and be sized at 3 cm width X 4 cm height. It should also be in jpg format and not exceed 300 kb in size for online submission.

Colombian Digital Nomad Visa Restrictions: 

It’s important to note that this visa is only valid for individuals who have a “tourist permission stamp” and are able to enter Colombia through the airport without a visa. Additionally, the visa has a yellow label which clearly states that the maximum duration of stay is 180 days per year, with a limit of 90 days that can be extended. This limit is not unique to Colombia’s visitor visa and is a common restriction with other visitor visas as well.
